On Wednesday Transformers 2 became the top movie of 2009 worldwide out grossing the box office total of Angels and Demons, who was the record holder. Transformers 2's worldwide box office total stands at $474.8 million worldwide, while Angels and Demons total stands at $461.1 million worldwide.
In comparison, Angels and Demons, the previous top movie of 2009, had been in release exactly 48. This give evidence to the amazing numbers and hype this Transformers has seen.
In regards to top domestic box office grosses of 2009, Transformers 2 still ranks third behind UP's $256.5 million and Star Treks $247.6 million, though it will surpass both their their grosses in just a few days.
On Wednesday, however, marked the first day it did not rank number one at the box office , behind the Wednesday opener: Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosours. Revenge of the Fallen took $10.94 million behind Ice Age's $13.79 million (a little more than Transformers 2 Midnight gross).
Although this gross is more than a -80% decline from the Wednesday it opened, it is considered normal, espically when you consider last Wednesday was it's massive opening.
In addtion to the $11 million domestically, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen also took in an additional $14.2 million from forreign locations. In total it added a total of $25.2 million worldwide on Wednesday.
