When asked whether or not Transformers 3 would be in 3D, Michael Bay was quoted as saying:
"It's a process we're testing with some 'Transformers' scenes," he said. "How successful it is with my movie in terms of a lot of real stuff coming out of the frame, real dirt, real complicated little particles coming towards the lens, because hopefully that process will work. I've seen some tests that look great on other movies. I just want to see how it looks on my footage."It comes as no surprise that there are tests being done to see if Transformers 3D would work, since many major studios are eagerly converting their movies to 3D, since they know that filling their release schedule with 3D films mean higher box office grosses and therefore revenue.
However, Michael Bay has been quoted as saying that he thinks 3D movies might be gimmick, and he would be opposed to filming a movie in 3D. Perhaps he was simply talking about the technology at the time, since he has now changed his stance, and is willing to do tests to see how Transformers 3 might be able to made in 3D.
At the time, he did state that he would wait until James Cameron's Avatar came out before he completely made up his mind, and as everyone knows, it came out and went on to become the highest grossing movie of all time. It's possible that he has now see the film, and is happy at how 3D technology has advanced, but that is just speculation. It is known, however, that Paramount, who is behind the Transformers movies, are pushing for Michael Bay to make the Transformers 3 in 3D.
Just keep in mind Director Michael Bay once stated:
“The way I shoot is too aggressive for 3D cameras. It’s a time consuming thing,” said Bay. “Who knows… It might be a fad. I’m kinda old school. I’m old school because I like to shoot on film. I like anamorphic lenses, and that is old school.”Either way, following Michael Bay's interview the web as been abuzz on the possibility of a Transformers 3D movie.
